Mommy's Little Heathen

My son goes to a private parochial school and everyday his teacher sends me little notes about what activities he did that day and what his general mood was like, etc. They have chapel everyday, although for his age group they mostly sing little songs and say a couple of prayers. It’s a great school because they really work with my son, who communicates largely via sign language (although he is speaking more these days).

This was Friday’s note (please note I am not going to edit):

“Mr. Little Man had a temper tantrum at chapel today. He wanted to climb onto the altar and we said no. We let him get over it and he calmed down on his own. Mr. Little Man sat next to me and when prayer began he went to the door and requested “open”, so I took him back to the classroom. When it was playtime for everyone he chose to color and sat nicely with the others. He did get up and walk around knocking everyone else’s toys down. I showed him that he needed to help clean up, but he went to the door and requested open”.

Apparently, whenever he doesn’t want to do something he just goes to the door and signs open and gets away with it. Nice.
