Life & Style

Life:
I got bored at work 2 days ago and decided to cut my hair. In the bathroom. At work. I started with bangs and then ended up cutting 6 inches off my my hair. In the bathroom. At work. It looks damn good. Next time I get bored I will add a few layers.

CT and Bebe finally had their baby. I am an aunt and I couldn't be happier. My to-do list now includes a visit.

I apologize in advance for this one: HOLY FRAK! When did Colonel Tigh (SMFT!!!) become my favorite character on BSG? The harder and more broken he becomes the more I love him.

Style:
Mr. Little Man has just gone through a tremendous growth spurt. The only thing I dislike more than shopping is crowds, so I bailed on work early yesterday in order to take Mr. Little Man shopping. He is at the age where he actually has to try on clothes because his legs are about a million miles long and he wants to pick out his clothes now. Purchases selected by him:

1 AC/DC shirt
1 Jimi Hendrix t-shirt
2 pair camo pants (1 desert camo, 1 green camo)
1 Hoody festooned with both a guitar and a British flag
1 pair of skull printed Vans (after a near nuclear meltdown due to the lack of Converse All Stars with Flames in his size)
1 Ski jacket with special pocket for iPod and earbuds (I am taking him skiing this year for the FIRST TIME.....so excited I was willing to spring for the jacket. No, he doens't own an iPod....he's 4 peopel!).

No, really. This is what it has come to. I have hidden all of my Clash CDs and will now play nothing but classical and jazz. The last thing I need is a little Iggy Pop walking around my house.

What I am reading:
Ticketmaster site. I need b-ball tickets (I scooped some for the Nets / Sixers game for Keith and I, but I need more!).

When did this happen?

I am a busy girl so I sometimes miss things that happen in the world. But when did the Philadelphia Eagles get their own ice cream?

Now, please note that they are selling this stuff not in Philadelphia (or rather, I have never seen it sold there), but right smack dab in the middle of Jets / Giants country. Huh? What? A quick investigation on the Turkey Hill website reveals that they don't make ice cream for any other teams.

That is some serious devotion to a sports team.

What I am reading: Pottery Barn Kids Catalog. I am shopping for my nephew, who is due any minute now.
What I am listening to: Ivy - Disappointed. I know, I know, but I am feeling emotionally conflicted and I have officially hit early menopause.

The Pot Stirrer

The Pot Stirrer. Every family has one and if you think yours doesn't, then it's YOU.
In my family I am the pot stirrer. I am also the black sheep, but that is a completely different post.

Case in point: My brother and his girlfriend Bebe are having a baby. Bebe's mother decides to throw a baby shower for her (#1, please do not even make me mention how that defies all of the laws of etiquette ever written) and invite everyone they know. Everyone, that is, except my mother. And me, which is not really a big deal, but I mention it because, again, the laws of etiquette defy this.

Now, my mother is upset about this because Bebe's mother has a long history of doing things like this and she feels like once the baby is born things will only get worse. EXAMPLE: Whenever Bebe has a birthday she invites Bebe to dinner (along with the rest of the family) but does not invite my brother, with whom Bebe has lived for 3 years. My mother fears that she will try to have birthday parties, etc for the baby and not invite my brother, which I would not put past this woman.

After hearing my mother gripe about this for 2 weeks I finally decided to call CT and tell him to talk to Bebe. I did give him the option of having me talk to her instead. Now, of course, the entire family is accussing me of stirring the pot but of course, they complained to me endlessly for 2 weeks without any action....which I, of course, took as a cry for help.

It once again makes me wonder if these people know me at all. Of course, I am going to stick my nose in; I am tired of hearing about it and you continue to drag me in anyway.

What I am reading: Once again, laws pertaining to immunizations. We need an exemption!

Suspension

Mr. Little Man goes to a school for autistic children. It's really great for him and he has made alot of progress there. This is not a full day program so after lunch he goes to a different school (that also has an after school program). The purpose of this is so that he can socialize with typically developing children and learn to mimic their behavior. Again, it's a great program and he has made lots of improvement since starting there. I've mentioned all of this here before, right? No?

Last Wednesday I get a call from the director asking me if I could come by because they are having some problems with Mr. Little Man. Long story short I get there and the director tells me that Mr. Little Man has been biting people. Here is how it all went down:

Me: Did you bite somebody?
Mr. Little Man: (via sign language) I bit 2 people.
Director: Actually, he bit 3 people.

The school does realize that something must have set him off because in the director's own words "under normal circumstances he is the most affectionate child." Either way, he was suspended for 2 days. I tried so hard not to have 2 really fun days with him because I do not want this to turn into a pattern where he bites people just so that I'll take him to the Zoo.

Also, there is no greater reality check than having your 4 year old suspended.

What I am reading: 2 weeks ago was banned book week (who knew such a thing even existed?), so now I am trying to read Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn. WHOA, Henry Miller!
